The Washington Roast

I decided to check out The Washington Roast as one of the political blogs we talked about during class. It was truly interesting and entertaining. All of the blogs are very liberal, in your face, and pretty much hilarious or offensive depending on which party you belong to. The Washington Roast is open to the public, provides information about who the bloggers are, how to contact them, but no list of bloggers they follow. They also do not have a donation box like some of the other sights. The Washington Roast is filled with humor, satire, and mildly offensive captions ("Jesus in Texas" regards some of the tea party campaigns). The site is overall highly biased, mildly funny, and entertaining as all heck. It kind of reminds me of the Onion or some other sort of comedic political site.

  1. Haha, sounds like fun. I'll have to check it out.

Do you think that it's an effective way to get points across? I'm thinking in particular when compared to more "professional" (for lack of a better term) blogs?

  2. Just the name "The Washington Roast" sounds like it would be funny. Sometimes poking fun at an idea may help get points across, but I don't know how effective it would really be because, would people ever take any of the information seriously?

I think that with the anonymity the internet provides, many people just start making waves just to see where things go. Sad world we live in today.

  3. I have to say that sometimes when I can have a good laugh about something, I enjoy it more. Sometimes when people are poking fun at an issue though, I think twice about it and usually look into it. I am not sure how serious I would take "The Washington Roast" but I will tell you one thing, Im going to check it out right now.

  4. I was saying in class earlier that sometimes they do this to attract the average joe to politics. Sure it may be funny to read what they say but it also leaves the reader questioning the point they are trying to make and the issue at hand. I haven't gone to this site yet but just because you said it is entertaining I want to look at it now. There are some people like steven colbert who make jokes about politics but he takes a firm stance in his beliefs and voices his opinion to his captured audience. I think this is a good tactic but sometimes blogs can go a little too far and be quite ridiculous.

  5. I think the humor aspect of the political blogs draws in a new variety of audiences. Younger people, new voters, and those who can appreciate poking fun at the opposing political party. The articles and blogs that are posted are usually news related with a twist of satire and sarcasm. I am kind of a fan of them!
